reinstate ability for friend to see me

Through my account, I selected to remove me from my friend's map so he can't see me. Can I reinstate his ability to see me without sending him a message? It was so simple to remove myself from his map (selected "remove me from user's map" on his name), but I can't find any option to allow him to see me again.

No, this unfortunately not possible. The option means you rejected his "friend request". So if your friend wants to see you again on the map he has to add you as friend again and you have to accept the request again. If you need support please let me know.
